Cake Lingerie has added a soft seamless style to its growing range of maternity bras and we LOVE it!
We started ranging this luxury seamless maternity/nursing range approximately 6 weeks ago and we have sold out twice in this short space of time. I wish I could say this of all my stock!
The Embrace Me line, which is designed for women at the most sensitive stages of a pregnancy, is described the first of its kind to offer a luxurious, seamless non-restrictive maternity and nursing bra with structure.
“Heightened hormonal activity during the first trimester and preparatory stages just prior and post birth, can create symptoms of breast tenderness and soreness. Wearing a soft, comfortable, yet supportive bra is vital to your breast health’ says Tracey Montford, founder and designer at Cake Lingerie.
In the first weeks of pregnancy when your breasts are very tender and uncomfortable this bra is perfect for wearing as a sleep bra. In the first days post delivery when your milk is coming in this bra is perfect and at all other times during pregnancy when you just want to have no restriction around your diaphragm - this is your bra!
The one thing we don't like about this bra is the colour options. Option 1: Grey. Looks like it started its life white and was washed with the darks. Option 2: Shell. A pale yellowy pink colour. Again looks like it started its life as a vibrant colour and at some point ended up looking like it does.
We joke with our customers about the fact that Cake has deliberately coloured the fabrics in these colours as the menfolk would have probably ruined them at some point in time by washing them with other colours (being helpful while you are busy with a new born), so they are just getting in first and saving them the time and effort! The good news is that Cake are looking at new colours for the next season and we have given our feedback on what we would like already!
Once you get past the fact that the colours are ugly and get the bra on, I guarantee you won't want to take it off! The matching briefs are divine to wear too. Super comfy to wear over bump and post caesarean also. Seamfree and the softest fabrics.

A great night (maybe a bit too much of a good night?? lol) fundraising for a great cause. Thanks so much to Ethan, Sam, Conin and Annie as well as Karla for being the voice of reason and for getting me a wine when things unravelled in the afternoon :) ♥ Love you
I got to thinking today about what I had in my mind when we decided we were going to take the plunge and open our own business in the specialty lingerie area of retailing and I realised how much the initial concept has evolved in the 5 months we have been open.
I did state (for the record) that I was prepared to adapt to meet the needs of the market as dictated by my customers. That is however in fact one of the understatements of my life to date!
We opened stocking 10 to 26 D to K, no hosiery and a very small range of swimwear……
A little way down the track we start at a size 6 and carry a consolidated range of larger sizes, are working hard to grow our swimwear range to accomodate the demand from our customers AND we have a range (albeit small) of lounge/sleepwear. We start at an A cup (in underwire and wire free) and hosiery is one of our most sucessful sub ranges.
And we continue to take on board what we are being asked for.
When I start to wonder some days what I have achieved in the last few months I shall pop back and read this blog!
It really is a lot of change to have achieved in a few short months and I am grateful that it is our own business and we do not have to answer to anyone (other than the bank manager and accountant?) prior to making the decisions we want, to ensure we are providing our wonderful customers with just what they need.
When I have 5 free minutes I may allow myself the luxury of contemplating what 2012 will bring.
We love it! And so do our customers. It’s absolutely gorgeous. The Liberty-inspired print is beautiful and the striking black trim keeps it from being too twee. Nieve is a very feminine bra without being O.T.T.
The long line version is available in a 30D-G, 32C-36G range and the balcony style bra is available in a massive size-selection of 28-D-J, 30D-36K, 38D-JJ in a classic Freya cut. Coordinating thong, brief and short (which is stunning and looks like a highwaisted 50′s brief).
Nieve has been available in store (balcony style only) since late August and has proved to be worth the wait. And the good news is that Freya is set to release a very similar style called Edith (black and white print) due for release late 2011/early 2012.
Feedback from one of our customers: “I really like this Bra – it fit perfectly. I would buy this again and the pattern was fun to wear. It gave me a very pleasant shape without spiky projections”.
There was however one MAJOR issue with Nieve in the balcony style….the band size is all incorrect in the GG-K cups. To give you an example of exactly how bad- I wear a 12H or very occasionally a 10HH in Freya and I ended up ordering a 8J to get the fit right. I can only imagine how frustrated all the online customers would have been waiting anxiously for their beautiful lingerie to arrive only to find that it was HUGE…. Not Freya’s best work.
This is further evidence why you should purchase lingerie from a specialty lingerie store where you will be professionally fitted!
I have asked Eveden whether we are likely to have the same issue with the fit of Edith and as yet have not received a reply so I am afraid to say I haven’t ordered it for my store. My loss?
I guess it is, but I would rather not order it in only to have to send half of it back due to fitting issues.
The bra provides excellent support from moulded cups that are not too heavy but provide absolute nipple coverage, silky fabric, classy lace trims, wide comfortable straps (that don’t sit too wide on your shoulders), great lift and shape as well as amazing cleavage! The cleavage enhancement is by way of graduated built in foam padding in the bottom of the cups. A little more for the A cup ladies and graduating to hardly there for the DD cups. All of these features make this an excellent bra for the price tag.
Our customers feedback has been very positive ”It has become my every-day bra and looks great under t-shirts. I feel sexy and look great”.
In summary- The Seductive comfort bra by Calvin Klein is a great choice when what you want is a bra to get your breasts noticed in just the right way!!!
The end of N.Z fashion week is celebrated with a lingerie parade that is a major event by anyone’s standards.
Bravista – Lingerie & Swimwear was proud to be involved in Fashion week and to be able to support KidsCan, a very worthy charity supporting N.Z children living in poverty.
We were able to showcase some of our current collections including Merissa and Emmanuelle (Bronze and Latte) by Fauve, Arabella by Freya, Tease me by Curvy Kate, Mia and Gigi by Miss Mandalay (exclusive to Bravista in N.Z) and a stunning blackberry sequinned number by Hope Lingerie (straight from Brazil and exclusive to Bravista in N.Z).
Thank you to my suppliers: Hope lingerie, Eveden, Miss Mandalay and Curvy Kate for the express deliveries of stock and the on-going support you have given me and for designing lingerie that looks amazing on a catwalk!
Our models were from 62 models and they were a pleasure to work with and the lingerie looked amazing on them too!
The theme for this year was saints and sinners which was a lot of fun to work with when styling the models and we went nuts at St Luke’s at Novo shoes and eQuip when putting it all together. I would like to personally thank both these companies for the support they gave us in sponsoring us with product and recommend you check them out for amazing ranges in shoes and jewellery (as seen on the catwalk N.Z fashion week 2011!)
My sincere thanks also go out to Sarah and Amy Logan who gave up there valuable time to ensure that we were prepared, polished and professional for our first ever showing at Fashion week. I couldn’t have done this without you two and I will be eternally grateful! Thanks to for my team Justine, Sophi and Alesha for supporting us on the night also.
This is it. The last two sinners looks for the saints and sinners show.
Hope sequins – is straight out of Brazil. Exclusive to Bravista it can’t be found anywhere else in New Zealand. A stunning front fastening moulded cup covered in sequins with a racer back (also covered in sequins). A fun and flirty bra that not only looks amazing but feels good on too. A very sexy Brazilian brief trimmed with matching sequins. Gorgeous Blackberry colour. To view this bra on the catwalk click here.
And of course Emmanuelle, click here to view in our online shop. We love Emmanuelle so much we are also showing it in Bronze. I love the detail on the back of this brief so I couldn’t resist showing you all. Totally love the platform rouched heels from Novo too. What do you think?
With the Saints and Sinners show less than a week away pressure is building. There are still a few loose ends to tidy up so we thought it might be time to share the last two saints looks, Tease Me and Merissa.
The Curvy Kate – Tease me set is our latest arrival in store! It’s a black and silver moulded balcony style bra overlaid with an elegant mesh giving a sexy sophisticated style and gorgeous shape. Sweet bows and intertwined ribbon complement the cute frills. The coordinating brief has detachable suspender and ruffles on the bottom for a sexy fun style. I couldn’t resist focusing on this brief, it is so fun.
The last saints look is Merissa. Isn’t this photo gorgeous. The silver italian embroidered hearts are perfectly complimented by quartz. The style shown is the padded half cup and we also stock the balcony bra. To see the entire Merissa range click here.
The Emmanuelle is one of our very favourite bras, and one of the best fitting as well! It is a “balcony” style and the straps sit a little wider to the side. We love this shape because it provides a beautiful open neckline and wonderful shape. The fabrics are so elaborate with Swiss style embroidery and exquisite trims, it really is a very stunning collection. To see the range in store click here.
For the show we have paired this beautiful bra with layers of soft pearls. We couldn’t resist adding the pedant necklace too.
One of the things we love about the Emmanuelle Latte set is the deep waspie. Imagine this paired with a beautiful pair of stockings – magic! Together with the brief we think this look is wonderfully elegant.
This is Mia from Miss Mandalay. It is a semi sheer black lace balconette bra which is very sexy. This bra is luxurious and delicate with velvet trim and bow. It gives a fabulous shape and lasting comfort throughout the day or night. Despite its sheer quality it provides excellent support and we have it in stock up to 14GG. There is a matching brief and thong that are very sheer and trimmed with a soft lace ruffle. To view the Mia range click here.
There are so many components to this look and I love them all. The fabulous spike heels pair perfectly with the lace up thigh high stockings. While the choker and silver bracelet give it a feisty feminine quality. It doesn’t matter what you pair with the luxurious Mia. This bra easily transitions from day time to night time and any time in between.
Time for something fun and play. Here is the Gigi bra (from Miss Mandalay) in hot pink. The photo doesn’t quite capture this colour which is such a shame because it is captivating. It has leopard bows on the straps and centre front.
The Gigi will give you a beautiful shape from a gently moulded balcony bra. Trimmed with frills in the softest fabric. Gigi is young, flirty and fun. To view Gigi on our website click here.
For the show we have decided to add plenty of sparkle! Including a crystal bracelet with pearl detail and drop necklace. I can’t wait to see this one on the runway. It looks amazing on our model Luna with her dark long hair and a pair of delicate high heels.
Here is the first sneak preview of one of the looks we have put together for the Saints and Sinners show at New Zealand Fashion Week.
Featuring the Arabella bra.
The Arabella bra is a fuller cup balcony plunge bra and features sheer mesh cups with finely embroidered scallop edging and bow details on the straps and in the centre of the bra. Not only is this a sexy looking bra but it is available in 8D to 16G. For the show we have decided to pair it with the brief and matching suspender.
I love the fact that this bra is both a bedroom and everyday bra for the fuller busted lady!
We have added a pair of black fish net stay ups with pink lace up trim, jewellery from eQUIP and fabulously high sultry shoes from Novo.
You have just purchased a gorgeous new set of lingerie and want to make it last, right? Well here are a few tips on how to do that…
It’s a good idea to wash your lingerie before you wear it for the first time for sanitary reasons and to rid the new garments of potential chemical residue.
Most lingerie manufacturers recommend hand washing intimates due to the delicate nature of these but I get the fact that we are all really busy and most of us don’t have maids or housekeepers to do our laundry for us.
To hand wash place the items in the sink filled with warm water and a little Softly liquid (see bottle for amount).Let them soak for 10-15 minutes to help soften the dirt. You may also gently rub the fabric together to clean away any dirt. After soaking take each item out and rinse with cold water until water runs clear. Rinse thoroughly (most people don’t do this properly). Lay the garments flat on a towel. Press out the excess water and lay flat or over a dryer rack until dry.
If you really want to wash your lingerie in the washing machine you need to ensure you use a laundry bag. Wash on gentle cycle and add a very mild detergent such as Wool mix or Softly. After the cycle is completed remove the laundry bag and carefully unzip (making sure you don’t snag any lace or trims) and remove the garments from the bag. Lay lingerie on a towel then press out the excess water. Dry flat or hang over a drying rack. Dry the bag ready for using next time.
Don’t squash the padding on any items or it could deform the shape. (Push up bras, moulded cups etc.)
Read all labels carefully for instructions and keep the darks and lights separate. HOT water is NEVER good for washing ANY fabrics especially delicate ones.
Store them away in their original form so they don’t lose their shape and give you your best enhancement. When you need lingerie again, please be sure to visit us @ www.bravista.com
